[G 27 / Rorquals] are unique whales. Their throats are made of very elastic material and have about [P 008 / 50 pleats]. The hinges of the lower jaw have special pads of very elastic tissue which allow the jaw to be opened by up to 90 degrees. The elasticity of the throat tissue and the folds enable rorqual whales to take an extraordinarily large gulp of water and food. Up to 60 tons of water rich in [G 19 / krill] is taken into the mouth. The throat expands into a great balloon to accommodate this huge volume of water.
